The Biggest Myth Holding You Back

3 min read

Alright, let’s talk about the one myth that’s likely holding you back: the myth that knowledge is power. Spoiler alert—it isn’t. Knowledge is potential power. And if you’re sitting on it, letting it collect dust, then congratulations—you’ve just transformed yourself into a Knowledge Askhole: a creature that asks for and collects info but never acts on it.

It’s like winning the lottery but letting the ticket expire in your wallet because you’re “just not ready yet.” Or signing up for the fanciest gym in town, researching all the best workouts, and then … never going. You’ve got all the tools, the information, the power right there, but if you’re not putting it to use? It’s just potential.

Imagine starting a business, learning every detail about how to scale it, how to make a massive impact, yet you just keep… waiting. For the “right time,” the “perfect moment,” or even worse, for “one more” piece of advice before you finally jump. The truth? If you’re still in that place, knowledge has only brought you to the starting line; it’s the action that’s going to take you over the finish line.

In my own journey—from launching You! Lingerie to growing Preggo Leggings and scaling Ashmi & Co.—I saw how often people stayed on the sidelines, reading, dreaming, waiting. They’d ask me about my business strategy, devour every detail, and then say, “Wow, I’m inspired! What should I read next?” Sis, no. What you should be doing next is acting on what you already know.

Over the years, I’ve met two types of people:

The Collectors – They gather all the knowledge, buy all the courses, attend every conference, and could probably write a dissertation on how to launch a business. Yet, somehow, they’re still “thinking about it.”
The Doers – These are the ones who take what they’ve learned, act on it, and see results. Maybe they started small, but they started.

For every woman who tells me my story gave her the courage to start her own brand, there’s another who’s still thinking about it. So here’s a tough love moment for you—are you acting, or are you endlessly planning?

When I launched my first brand, I knew nothing about bras, pregnancy, or running a business. I just saw a need, knew my why, and took the leap. Yes, I made mistakes (big ones!). But every one of those was a lesson that propelled me forward because I was in motion, not parked in analysis paralysis.

So, if you’re sitting there with everything you need—ready to take action but just a little too cozy in your knowledge cocoon—I’ve got one final nudge: don’t wait for perfect timing, don’t wait for more info. Go make it happen with what you have right now.

And, as my mama used to say, “Honey, you can dream all you want, but at some point, you gotta get moving or get out of the way.”

What do you think?
